How to Teach Dog Tricks to Your Dog
Teaching dog tricks can be a great way to create a special bond
between the dog and his master. The intelligence of your dog increases
incredibly, when you start teaching him tricks and he becomes a
confident and well behaved dog. With frequent repetitions and rewards on
their success, you can make dogs perform great tricks.
Select tricks carefully

You can teach the dogs a lot of tricks but you must be careful while
choosing the tricks since dogs belonging to some breeds find it
impossible to perform certain tricks. Don’t frighten the dog with tricks
that are too difficult or scary for him. The dog’s safety has to be of
greater priority, so choose popular tricks that are safe and easy.
Select dog tricks that are perfect for a particular breed.
Make commands easier
Use simple commands that are mostly one worded during dog training
sessions. Longer sentences can confuse the dog and affect his
understanding. Go for simple commands that are easy to understand. Speak
clearly and audibly to your dog, so that they differentiate between the
commands you speak out.
Dedicate exclusive time
Find time exclusively for training your dog and don’t be distracted by
other engagements. Build a good bond with the dog and dedicate a few
hours every day for dog tricks training.
Give them a break

Plan the training sessions with enough breaks so that the dogs are not
completely burned out and tired. After teaching each trick for a few
minutes, take a break so that the dog does not feel the monotony of
repetition. During the breaks, give them food, play games or pet them.
Laud them on success
Praise your dogs when they impeccably execute a trick. Dogs love to be
petted and rewarded. Rewarding acts as a motivating factor for
them to
learn more and more difficult tricks. Bones, toys or food bits will
encourage them and this will help you to teach the tricks very easily.
Be patient with your dog
Patience is the key attribute of the pet owners who teach their dogs to
do tricks. Dogs are like children and sometimes they will not understand
what you say, instantly. Some dogs grasp their tricks quickly while
others lag behind. Allow them to repeat the tricks till they get it
right and duly reward them.
Punishments do not work
Punishing a dog while teaching him dog tricks will de-motivate the dog
and create a negative impact on the dog. Avoid punishing them, even when
they make you angry or do not deliver. Your frustrations will frustrate
them more so, treat them compassionately.
Don’t overwhelm them
Dogs do not do tricks naturally and so they are learning a new set of
skills. Learning something new can take its own course and this
understanding must make the masters behave more considerately with the
dog.
Make dog tricks training fun
When the dogs have fun in the training regimen, they perform
enthusiastically and actively participate in the learning process.
Devise training sessions, by including fun-filled activities that excite
them.
