Basic Dog Tricks – Simple and Fun
Dog tricks training can be taxing and fun at the same time for the
pet owners. You must not begin the exercise routine with difficult
tricks but include simple and easy tricks that are easy for the dog.
Creating a favourable environment for the dog to practice the tricks is
of great significance, too.
Before starting to teach dog tricks, you must teach your dog to follow
the basic obedience commands. Every trick needs an opening and closing
command, which will make the dog realize the beginning part and the end
of each trick. Once, the dog has successfully practiced responding to
the opening and closing commands, during the tricks, you can increase
the difficulty of tricks, slowly.

Sit, come, stay, go, wag, down
These are basic commands which the dog should be able to practice. Dogs
might take a little time to understand and execute these commands, since
they are playful in nature. Grab their attention with treats and mimic
these actions for them, till they repeat it at your command. These
commands are essential, since they lay the foundation for teaching dog
tricks.
Doggy shake hand
This is a very popular trick that owners teach their pets. Open the
command with ‘sit’ lift your dog’s paw and shake it gently, every time
you speak out ‘shake’. Do it repeatedly till he understands the command
and then release the position by saying ‘OK’. Praise the dog after he
executes the trick.

Dog wave
Making your dog wave its limbs is a variant of shaking hands. Say ‘wave’
and demonstrate it to the dog. Repeat it and reward the dog, once he
understands the command and responds to it.
Roll over dog
This can be a great game for the dog which is very interesting. Make
your dog lie down on the floor and gently roll him over, as you speak
out the command, ‘roll over’. Do the same for a few times and then when
the dog does the trick without any assistance, give a treat.
Catch trick
You can practice this basic dog trick, during your dog’s meal time. Toss
tiny bits of food particles that your dog loves and command him to
‘catch’. If the dog does not catch the small food bits, collect them.
This will give an impression that it will get more food, when it catches
more number of times.

Go fetch
Once the dog understands the command, ‘catch’, it will understand to eat
everything it catches since we use food bits for practice. You can
slightly change the routine and give the dog a ball to catch. Throw it
in the air, accompanied with the command ‘fetch’. Initially, the dogs
might be hesitant to give you the ball or the objects you throw in the
air but with a few repetitions, they learn.
Bring paper
You can also teach your dog to bring the newspaper from your front yard.
You can use ‘fetch paper’ or ‘bring paper’ to encourage the dog to pick
the paper and bring it to you.
